A Fake Odyssey

Dr. Jonathan Reed is not who he claims to be. In fact, his real name is John Bradley Rutter. He has been exposed as a fake whose claims have been found to be a hoax perpetrated on those gullible enough to buy his story. He is not even a doctor and has never been able to prove it. His claim to be a psychologist is also questionable as he does not have a college degree. He cannot prove his title is legitimate. To use this unearned status to falsely add credence to his claim is reprehensible.
UFO Watchdog has investigated this man's claims and found them to be nothing but a web of lies. Syfy's Fact or Fake exposed this man for telling untruths. A professional layered voice analysis utilized by the former FBI agent and show host showed deception by this man. All of the purported videos offered by this man has been duplicated and shown to be fake.
The sad part is George Noory of Coast to Coast radio show bought into this story lock stock and barrel and gave rave reviews. It just goes to show that even respected paranormal show hosts can fall for such scams. One should always hold a healthy skepticism to incredible claims and do your own research.

About the Author
J. Anthony (Tony) Seikel, Ph.D., is professor of communication sciences and disorders at Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho. His research interests center on the relationship of pathology to acoustics and perception, as well as improving pedagogy through technology. He has recently been studying the relationship between oromyofunctional disorders and oropharyngeal dysphagia. He earned his B.S. in Speech and Hearing from Phillips University, his M.A. in Speech Pathology from Wichita State University, and a Ph.D. in Speech and Hearing Science from the University of Kansas.

David G. Drumright is a programmer and teacher in Spokane, Washington. He has taught electronics at numerous schools and has a background in speech-language pathology and audiology. His software includes the original ANIMA programs of this text, the new ANATESSE application, AUDIN software for audiology instruction, and several other instructional tools.

Douglas W. King, Ph.D., was a professor within the basic medical program at Washington State University until his death in 2001. He was greatly loved by his students and fellow faculty, and had set up a scholarship program in anatomy for students with diabetes.

Great Textbook, CDs not Mac compatible

I am just barely begining to use this textbook in my speech pathology courses, but I do have one major complaint. The software, Anatesse, and studywares are not mac compatible. I was able to get the studywares cd to work on my mac by testing it out on a trial version of crossover mac, but the anatesse only shows the uninstall file..... Very annoying. No where on any of the info does it say what operating system is required. In addition on of my classmates is having issues running it on vista as well.... Fortunatly Seikel the main author is the head of the department I am in so I will be able to complain to someone.....

Eileen Browne worked as a school teacher and youth worker before becoming an author and illustrator. Her best known books are Handa's Surprise, Handa's Hen, and No Problem. Handa's Surprise and No Problem were both shortlisted for awards. Her other book for Frances Lincoln is Through my Window. Browne lives in Wiltshire, U.K.

Tony Bradman has written more than 50 books for children. Well-known as a children's book reviewer for Parents magazine, he also founded the Best Book for Babies Award. His books for Frances Lincoln are Has Anyone Seen Jack?, Look Out He's Behind You, This Little Baby, Through my Window, and he edited the story anthologies Give Me Shelter and Under the Weather. An all time favourite.

I grew up in South East London, where Jo and her family, as well as the author, hail from.

This book (along with Through My Window and In A Minute) really capture the London of my childhood (90s).

They are lovely stories which had many years of use when I was young, and now my daughter loves them too. The illustrations are fantastic. Extremely detailed with lots to look at. These have kept my daughter captivated since she was about 13 months old. They are still regularly read now she is two and a half, and I foresee them being a firm favourite for years to come.

I would say the books are aimed at around five years and up. Really good books for children when they are learning to read.

In this story, Jo and her Mum go in to town to post a parcel to her Gran for her birthday. Jo also has some pocket money she wants to spend! They stop off at various shops on the way and Jo is tempted to spend her money. She decides to "wait and see" what to spend her money on at each stop, which is just as well as when they reach the post office her Mum has forgotten her purse. Jo gives her the money to post her Grandma's parcel. On the way home all the shop keepers reward her kind gesture by giving her produce from their shops. Which is also just as well, as the neighbour's dog has eaten the lunch Jo's Dad had lovingly prepared when they were out!

I'd recommend this book to anyone with a little bookworm!

Cute, Multicultural Book

This book is really cute. I'm always looking for books with multicultural characters to add to my daughter's library, and this one is the latest one I found. It's set in England so some of the words they use are different than what we (Americans) use and that's something else that my daughter will find interesting as she gets older (she's 2). The story is very cute and has nothing to do with race (it's a little girl deciding what she wants to do with her money) but I like that so many cultures are represented. I'd recommend this book to everyone.

With Bated Breath asks questions about memory—how and why it plays such a prominent role in our lives: how time affects it, how it fractures, how we often reinvent it depending on the situation—and why it is that certain things stay with us with a blistering clarity, while the shadows of other people and events simply slip away, only to reveal themselves again later in our lives when we least expect them.

This is the provocative tale of Willy, a troubled but charismatic gay kid who flees Cape Breton Island for Montreal with hopes of forgetting a newly broken heart by starting a new life in the big city. There, hopelessly awkward and na�ve, caught up in the cynical and brutalizing cash-economy of the city’s red light district, he retreats ever further into a world of fantasy and anonymity, and soon goes missing without a trace. Willy, in one way or another, has had a profound effect on the lives of the people he has touched. As rumours fly, secrets explode and reality blurs with fantasy, he is both remembered and reinvented by each of the play’s characters in their own way.

Though Willy’s self-appointed, newfound and worldly wise mentor had cautioned him, “There’s nothing safe. We’re never safe. If you ever thought you were, you were in denial,” it’s too late for this dreamer who ignored the best advice he ever got from those who cared for him: “You just don’t find a soul mate—you have to invent them. Cuz love at first sight sure don’t last.” What lasts at the end of the day is memory—the necessary tale we tell ourselves to both make sense of our past and to give ourselves hope for a future without having to lose those we have loved.

Bryden MacDonald
Bryden MacDonald is a playwright, director, dramaturge, and teacher. His published plays are Whale Riding Weather, The Weekend Healer, and Divinity Bash/nine lives. His latest play, With Bated Breath, premiered at Montreal’s Centaur Theatre in April 2009. He has created and directed theatrical interpretations of the words and music of Leonard Cohen (Sincerely a Friend), Carol Pope & Rough Trade (Shaking the Foundations), and Joni Mitchell (When All the Slaves Are Free). He has taught and coached students at The National Theatre School of Canada and McGill University, served as resident dramaturge at Playwrights Workshop Montreal, and was the mentoring director for Imago Theatre’s Inaugural Directors’ Gym. He has conducted workshops or been artist-in-residence or guest artist at a number of theatres and festivals across the country, including The Stratford Shakespeare Festival, Factory Theatre, and Neptune Theatre. He has sat on juries at The Canada Council and been a member of the board of directors for The Quebec Drama Federation. He is happy to be making his home in Nova Scotia again.

Null, a well-known spokesperson for natural health and aging (Gary Null's Ultimate Anti-Aging Program), offers another volume on how to deal with the physical effects of aging. According to the author's research, illnesses such as cancer, heart disease and degenerative brain conditions are, in part, caused by damage inflicted by free radicals-unstable molecules that impair cells. The bodies' defenses against free radicals are antioxidants that can neutralize the free radicals' effect. In order to lessen the number of free radicals, Null believes it is necessary to drink pure water, exercise properly, follow a power aging diet and consume a variety of antioxidant vitamins, herbs and minerals that should boost the immune system. Null's exhortations to detoxify the body will sound familiar to devotees, but others may find his program overly stringent and too detailed. The cardiovascular protocol, for example, is quite complex. His diet program (he calls it the non-diet diet) is similar to what he has been recommending for years: strictly avoid red meat, caffeine, sugar, dairy, alcoholic beverages and wheat products. The mainly vegetarian meals (menus are included) that he advocates should be composed of organic products.

This book is pretty good if you haven't read any other books by Null. If you have, I would forget about it. Mainly because he doesn't really bring anything new to the table. The only difference between Power Aging and his previous books are in the way the information is arranged. Other than that, it is basically recycled material. Good for a new reader but almost a waste of time for people who have read something published by Null in the past.

Actually, sort of surprised

I haven't been impressed with Gary's books as of late. I completely agree with a couple of the reviewers who claim Gary's books are just recycled material, over and over again. I couldn't agree more.... until this book.

I have to say, I got A LOT out of this book, that I hadn't in some of his other books. There are plenty of new ideas presented in this book, and I also like the format of this book. His writing style is much more fluent in this book than in books of the past. Also, his message is as clear as ever. In addition, this is one of the first books that I've read of Gary's, where he recommends eating fish. I believe in early 2000 or so, is when he started promoting fish, after 20+ years of promoting a vegan diet. But I hadn't seen it in print until this book.

All in all, I think this is Gary's best book yet. I'm still kind of surprised with some of the reviews on here. Maybe they didn't actually read the book; it was more of a skim through.

Nothing New

Unlike books by some anti-aging practitioners who seem to publish in order to advertise their HRT programs, Gary Null's agenda is not so obvious. He claims that his book is different from the rest, but that's only because he has included a bit more information on environmental factors and their effects on aging at the beginning. Hence, he recommendations safe and organic food sources.

Apart from that, I see nothing new. The same old glossary of supplements, the same old recipes that no one has time to prepare and recommendations on exercise which only show that the author is far from an expert in this area.

However, I'm surprised that the author actually gave "natural" alternatives to hormone replacement. I'm not sure if the supplements really work, but at least he's not pushing HRT and making light of potential side effects even in expert hands.

Not a fantastic book but still quite informative for those who haven't already read a hundred books on anti-aging.

About the Author
Norman Beaupr�, Ph.D., was born in Maine and pursued his graduate education at Brown University. He taught for thirty years at the University of New England in Maine. He is presently Professor Emeritus at this institution. He has traveled abroad extensively and spent two sabbaticals in Paris. He has written and published nineteen books so far, in English and in French. In 2008 he was awarded the medal of L’Ordre des Arts et Lettres, grade d’officier by the French Ministry of Culture and Communications in Paris for his outstanding contribution to French culture.

A novel of ideas for a change!

This is a book of ideas. It is in a Continental French tradition of using the novel form to explore thoughts rather than actions. As another reviewer commented, this is a slow read but it is often a stimulating read. It is about Maria Callas but it is also about the Franco-American experience and as such is an interesting glimpse into yet another facet of our culture. But, do not expect folklore here. This is a novel about a Franco man in the larger world.
