The most basic instructions
By Don Osborne
I had hoped to learn something about the Genesis Framework itself from this book -- a basic understanding of hooks and filters is what I was after. While this book would be awesome if you'd prefer a Kindle reference for the basic options in Genesis, there is nothing more in this than a lightly annotated set of screen shots of the options within the admin panel in Genesis. If you're experienced enough in WordPress to know about Genesis, and to know about working with a theme framework, then there's nothing in this book for you, EXCEPT that you can have a nice summary of the admin options in your Kindle.
This book is ideal if you would like a little bit (a sentence or two) more information about each of the admin options in Genesis than what you get on the screens themselves. I'm writing my own custom functions, I'm registering widgets, I write my own templates and edit css. There's nothing in here for me ... hopefully you'll find the book more useful for you.

Disappointed
By Christian Nelson
When working with the Studio Press Genesis framework and the available Genesis child themes (along with the Genesis plugins, etc.) there is a lot to learn. The themes work great...*if* you can figure out how to use them.
The main problem is that Studio Press does not furnish much useful documentation. The first time I tried to use a Genesis theme I was totally lost. This was almost two years ago, and I was relatively at ease with WordPress in general, but after installing my first Genesis theme, I was totally lost. It's as if they expect you to be a mindreader, and I'm not one of those.
I eventually figured out how most of the themes work, but it was difficult, frustrating, not a lot of fun...and only happened after many, many visits to the StudioPress forum, and lots of help from other online sources.
So when I saw this book, I thought maybe it was written by someone who had actually used Genesis a lot, really understood it, *and* (most importantly) who knew how to explain the "how to" information. I was wrong.
This book is more like a quick-start sheet that comes with a DVD player. It lists some of the features, and gives a vague idea of what those features do, but no real in-depth information regarding how to actually *do* anything.
There are a fair amount of screenshots, but many of the screenshots aren't very helpful, and some are actually unreadable. No way to see what you're supposed to see. (I read the book on an iPad.)
Another annoying thing was that the writer occasionally seemed to be referring to things that were not present in this Kindle book. For example:
In the "Featured Image" section, she mentions that she had "done an additional post and video about keeping your content fresh by utilizing the 'Genesis Featured Widget.' You can read that post here." The problem is that there is no "here" here. I have the feeling that this book started as a PDF file, and no one bothered to include this extra material (or links) in the Kindle version.
At another point she says, "I will explain these options in further detail later in the PDF." What PDF???
Want one more annoyance? There were at least two places where she used "canned" explanations for certain things. Here's one example from the "Comments & Trackbacks" section of the book:
"As for Trackbacks, I do have them enabled on my site (this screenshot is from a dummy site). What is a trackback you ask? This is taken directly from WordPress.org."
Huh???? At this point she provides a paragraph copied directly from WordPress.org that tells you what a trackback is. I expected more than that.
I'm not saying this is a "terrible" book. I'm just saying it could have (and should have) been much better. I learned a few things, but not much.
Maybe she will do an updated edition with a lot more content, and that will be better.

Not Ready for Release
By Diego Norte
Decided not to buy this after looking at the free sample -- content is thin, not that helpful, and the screenshots are poor, almost unreadable on a tablet. In the next edition, I'd like to see author expand the book, maybe increase the price to compensate, and re-do the screenshots completely so they are easy to read. It looks like they used low-quality JPEG's for the screenshots instead of proper PNG's.
